Magnetic Sponsoring by Mike Dillard, does it really attract?

Building your home business the correct way?

So you have searched the internet looking for a better way to grow a home based business. You’re specifically interested in growing a business in network marketing. No doubt you have come across a couple sites praising the marketing system Magnetic Sponsoring by Mike Dillard in Austin.

So what exactly is Magnetic Sponsoring and why is it important to network marketers? Is it useful? Does it really work?

I stumbled across this information about more than a year ago. Like most I was skeptical. Wait, let me retract that and say I was very skeptical. I have an education in Mechanical Engineering so I think I’m educated enough to see through most false advertisements. Seeing stuff like this on the internet doesn't get much attention because the promises are just to grand. Seriously, how can someone sponsor so many strangers off the internet?

6 months later and a good stream of very informative videos and e-mails finally got me to try out the system. It came with a 1 year money back guarantee so what did I really have to lose. I figured I would look into this system and see if it could help. I definitely couldn’t hurt and the most I would lose is time. At my point in my network marketing career I didn’t have many other choices.

Have you done these?

1. 100 names list consisting of friends, relatives, associates, neighbors, and kids parents.
2. Dragging people to business opportunity meetings.
3. Arguing with people online that my business was better than theirs so join mine.
4. Placing company ads describing how great it was.
5. And many others.

Book
So what do you get?

1. Printed spiral notebook w/ free shipping
2. Back office system with examples on how to attract prospects
3. Auto-responder e-mail
4. Banners
5. Capture Pages
6. Sales Pages
7. Videos
8. Constant updates to materials to improve conversions
9. Traffic and campaign information
10. Check out
11. Plus many others...

Bang for your Buck

How can a marketing system really include all of that for such a low cost and also not charging a monthly fee? Isn't there an on going server fee to maintain the changes and tracking for your prospects?

I have the answer to why this system gives so much up for so little. It's called "Give before want". One of the primary teachings of the course is to share and give freely. Show that you can help people without wanting something in return. This totally shook my world. Materials in this book actually taught their students to give to those wanting help. Share knowledge and grow others before looking to make a sale. People are not dollar signs.

This totally took me by surprise and didn't really sink in until I finished the book 2 days after receiving it.

So of course the big question is: Does it work?

I can respond only to this by saying: Maybe.

Why maybe? Well, I would like to relate this to someone buying a sports car. The sports car is capable of high speeds and a fun ride. Put this in the hands of someone who can't drive or drives 20 mph under the limit really puts things into perspective. This is a tool. Tools are only as good as the operator. I first experienced this first hand while working with machinist. They have thousand dollar machines but if the programmer and operator are not trained well my engineering parts will not come out without a high scrap percentage.

This tool does give you all the nuts and bolts to build a system to attract thousands but then again it does depend on many factors. One being is time or money more important. You can reach more people using pay methods or your can spend more time doing free methods.

The system does has it's faults and one of them is found with it's Capture Page with Magnetic Sponsoring.

The true measure of someone being able to succeed using magnetic sponsoring falls squarely on his or her own shoulders. A successful student of magnetic sponsoring will continue to grow and learn.

Test Time

Magnetic Sponsoring doesn’t exactly have a test at the end of the course to see if the student totally understands the material, but in reality there are a couple of test questions.

1. Do you have the determination to become an Alpha network marketer?
2. Are you still blaming your failures on everyone else except yourself?
3. Are you giving without want?
4. Do you listen more than you speak?

Education can only do so much for a student. It’s up to the student to get up and run with the material presented. Just like when I was in my engineering class at the University of Texas at Austin, it’s up to the student to learn how to apply theories discussed in class in real world applications.

Are They Your Leads for REAL?

Sort Of

1) The capture page Magnetic Sponsoring gives you is Free after your 1 time buy in. This is tremendous. Most services require a monthly fee. Why? Split testing. Magnetic Sponsoring is always changing and tweaking their capture/sales pages for the highest conversion. Awesomeness. All for 1 entry fee!

2) There is a drawback to the system though. The leads are entering into Mike Dillards Magnetic Sponsoring system and he owns them. He shares them with you freely but it is stated that you should call those shared leads as he won't as he's giving you rights to them BUT..... You can NOT e-mail them more than once. They did NOT opt into your autoresponder. If you were to manually place those leads in your autoresponder they don't really know you. They only associate you with Mike Dillard. Tricky Tricky.

So...

The Real Benefit as Magnetic Sponsoring is a MUST have for any network marketer/affiliate sales person is to Build your own capture page and then send your leads to Magnetic Sponsoring. This totally positions you as the leader which the course teaches and your giving Tons of value.

Don't use Magnetic Sponsoring as a Front End Gateway.

This is how I do it.

One Funnel System Branded to YOU that you can build a Relationship with your List. You then suggest different materials based on THEIR needs to build THEIR business. The one and only way to do this is to either build it from the ground floor yourself (capture pages, sales pages, training pages, autoresponder integration, split testing, tracking...) or you can have a system that is already proven to have all of this and then some BRANDED TO YOU.

No Sharing Leads. Not having to manually input people into another autoresponder. All in one system that is easy enough for anyone to jump in (step by step videos) all for a $1 trial.

This is what I use and recommend in conjunction with Magnetic Sponsoring to teach Attraction Marketing.

Sales Person Vs Consultant

So what is really the difference?

Lets lay the baseline with good old Web Definitions pulled from Princeton.

Sales Person: A person employed to represent a business and to sell its merchandise (as to customers in a store or to customers who are visited)

Consultant: Adviser: an expert who gives advice; "an adviser helped students select their courses"; "the United States sent military advisors to Guatemala"

Just looking at the definitions you can clearly see these aren’t the same type of position. The sales person is viewed as a person who pushes product. Most will invoke images of someone trying to sell you something you don’t want or need. The demand is obviously there because if it wasn’t the sales person wouldn’t try to move a product that didn’t sell. Most people don’t go hunting down sale people to get sold to. Generally, if your in the area you will be pitched to.

The consultant on the other hand doesn’t seem so sales focused. Princeton defines it as an advisor. Actually, Princeton really does a great job and show that the consultant is an “expert who gives advice.”

Now, it’s not to say that sales people are not experts but the perceived image of a sales person is that their #1 quality to them is persistence and having a skill set to close a deal on anyone.

Consultants are perceived to be experts in their fields and when someone needs help in that field they go to find THEM. Consultants don’t hound people for business.

The positioning of both of these positions is completely different. The sales person is chasing people down convincing people where as the consultant is being sought out after by people who need problems solved.

From the explanation above, you can then see how a person could have functioned as a sales person and then transitioned into being a consultant. You won’t see an “expert” chase someone down to make a sale. Correct positioning in a sale is crucial to determining your chances of making a sale.

So be in the mindset of solving people’s problems versus your own. People don’t want to be sold to but people sure do love to buy. Correctly marketing your opportunity to attract prospects versus chasing them down will drastically increase sales numbers.

The main way to do this is generating targeted traffic to you as a consultant versus someone else who is just out there waiting to make a buck.

I help mentor network marketers from their sales person mindset. My system correctly positions my team and students into becoming consultants which provide VALUE instead of products people don’t want.

Why NOT to use Magnetic Sponsoring Capture Page

There is a discussion about why would someone want to build their own Marketing System when Magnetic Sponsoring already has a constantly changing and highly convertible Capture Page they give you as part of being a student with Magnetic Sponsoring.

There is a fine line between spam (unsolicited e-mail) and content driven e-mail that people confirm they want.

The current steps for a magnetic sponsoring affiliate who wants to build their own list is to export the leads from magnetic sponsoring and then import them into an autoresponder (autoresponder comparison review of Aweber and iContact). This isn't as hard as it sounds but there are some things to consider.

A single e-mail will determine if the new lead will continue receiving additional e-mail and will then comply to Magnetic Sponsoring's One E-mail rule and not be considered unsolicited mainly because you did point them to an affiliate capture page.

Now.

If you are new and don't have anything in place like your own split tested capture page branded to YOU, then this is probably the first step for many newer Magnetic Sponsor users. This is how I did it and many probably others probably still do it.

The dangers of doing this long term defeats the purpose of Branding Yourself since the Capture page is Not You. Your Face isn't on that capture page or a video showing your leadership skills. If personal branding isn't one of your top priorities then the magnetic sponsoring student really needs to re-read magnetic sponsoring instead of skimming it cause the entire point of the course is lost.

Drop Out Rate - Any time you have a system that has a single opt in versus a double opt in, the single will ALWAYS convert better. This is the case because people are lazy and things get lost in the shuffle.

So prevent drop outs with your own customized marketing system branded to YOU.

Traffic Flows into a Capture Page
1) Magnetic Sponsoring - Traffic flows in and your getting about a 10% conversion to Leads. Congrats!!! Now you want to move those leads into your own capture page. What do you think the percentage of those Leads will physically make the journey into your own autoresponder? The ONLY way I have seen a 100% conversion is if you have only a couple Leads per day and you Call each and every one of those leads preparing them to get them on your newsletter which you will be sending them a welcome e-mail shortly. This is a slow process and not automated. In reality, the conversion will never be 100% so get ready to lose some Leads that you generated through Magnetic Sponsoring. My guess would be 25-50% if you never called them prior to moving them to your autoresponder.
Ex: 1000 unique visits -> 100 Leads/month -> 50 to 75 Leads make it to your autoresponder (if no calls)

2) Your Own Capture Page - Traffic flows in and your getting 10% conversion to Leads. Awesome! These leads are automatically sent to your autoresponder and since they have opted in at that webpage there is NO need for a confirmation/opt in e-mail. Your job is done. You just retained 100% of your leads with ZERO phone calls.
Ex: 1000 unique visits -> 100 Leads/month -> 100 Leads make it to your autoresponder (No Call Necessary)

Now some might say "you need to call them regardless so this isn't an issue". During my interview/mentoring process I jam a lot of information in 10 min but mostly I am listening. What are the chances the New Lead will absorb everything I share with them and still remember my e-mail and to confirm my newsletter confirmation/opt in e-mail. Not having to burden a new lead with more tasks (I give homework on my calls to solve their personal struggles) will increase response. Cause wouldn't that just be an awful waste of time to call a Lead only to find out that they forgot to confirm their e-mail?

By all means, if you are newer moving them from magnetic sponsoring is NOT a bad thing. They really are yours in a sense. I tend to categorize them as being "shared" but as long as your Lead confirms the opt in e-mail it's all good. Just not fun when your getting 10-50 Leads a day to keep up with.

Main reason to get a Branded and Customized Marketing System which Brands You.

Aweber vs iContact Autoresponders

So what do you really want from an autoresponder?

Wiki Definition:
An autoresponder is a computer program that automatically answers e-mail sent to it. They can be very simple or quite complex.

The main purpose of using an autoresponder is to keep in contact with your List. Your list consists of people who trust and follow you and respect you as a leader.

As they say "The money is in the List".

So it is vital that your autoresponder can do a couple of things very well.

  1. Gets the e-mails to your List (spam filters are an issue and might prevent some messages to getting to their destination)
  2. Manage the List (being able to filter who is on your list and the health of the List)
  3. Easy of Use
  4. Cost as List grows
  5. Tracking
  6. Affiliate program
I have moved to Aweber and the main reason was because it is tightly integrated into my marketing page http://www.teachingmlm.com

I wasn't sure how I would like it since I first started with iContact which was recommended by the Magnetic Sponsoring group (Mike Dillard). I thought iContact was pretty powerful and was really low cost to use.

Comparison between Aweber vs iContact
  1. Cost - $20/month (0-500 subscribers) vs $10/month (0-250 subscribers), $14 (500 subscribers) = Price is close but iContact barely wins
  2. Popularity Alexa - 256 vs 3,197 = Aweber for sure
  3. Ease of Use - Both are similar as both allow both HTML and TXT messages but converting a HTML to a TXT in iContact sometimes requires additional editing as words get merged. Very annoying. Also Aweber shows you the standard width so you can sentance wrap lines for smaller screens which most people have.
  4. Tracking - I like iContacts method of tracking as it breakes it down per message sent and you can see the sent, opens, bounces, spams. Aweber also does it but take a bit longer to adjust to. Aweber seems to have more information and seems to focus more on a larger audience as each subscriber has more unique information tied to them. I also really enjoy how the autoresponder list is managed in Aweber. In iContact you specify how many days after a subscriber joins to send the message. Aweber has how many days AFTER the message before. This makes total sense. If you have 100 autoresponder emails then you don't want to have to edit each iContact email and have to adjust how many dates from entry to send the email. The drag and drop order and how many days the next email shoudl be released after the previous one is Aweber is much easier to handle.
  5. Affiliate - 20% personal and 10% from 2nd level vs 25% on all sales. Aweber raising commissions from 20% to 30%, take effect today, April 8th, 2009.
In terms of which to chose, it really depends on your personal needs. I had to use Aweber with my marketing system as it integrates an autoresponder series into it.

Both are great programs and if your list is small the only difference would be price until you go over 250 subscribers. If your goal is 250 subscribers then your thinking too small. Personally, I was fed up with iContacts HTML email copy to TEXT and having to correct the mistakes of that conversion.

MLM Lead System Pro
uses Aweber and that is more than enough reason for me to use it too.

So Aweber by a small margin.
